Our Kickstarter Project
(March 1 - 31 2019)

It all started when…

We drew our original inspiration for Lufkin from friends and farmers in Nicaragua, a Santa Barbara sunset, a magical trip through Wales, and the joy of making coffee at home. All of us have experienced those times in life, where we stop, and really take in the moment. Enjoying coffee has that quality, allowing us to step aside from our everyday comings and goings and take a moment. To experience a conversation, a quiet, a comfort.

For us, coffee and ceramics are really about mindfulness and a personal moment of mental quiet

The new spaces

The new coffee bar we envisage for Thompson's Park expands on this ethos by offering a place to stop, chat and get a warm cup of coffee while out on your morning stroll, dog-walk, jog or or moment of solitary mindfulness. The tiny cabin-like space, set against the tranquil park setting, will be the perfect escape.  We have won a bid from the council to secure the space, and what we need now is to raise the money for the necessary work in order to create our vision for a coffee bar.

The Clare Road site in Grangetown will host their 10kg coffee roaster, that churns out freshly roasted coffee each week before being packaged in 250g bags. The high-grade coffee is served in ceramic mugs made by a local ceramicist, living and working in Gower. The new premises will also be home to a coffee bar, ceramics store and hot-desking workspace on the site of the old NatWest Bank.

Sustainable Commitment

It's our plan to cut coffee-cup waste and these Lufkin branded reusable cups will help keep your coffee warm as you stroll around! Available exclusively to backers of the campaign. The MiiR Camp Cups are designed with the ethos - 'timeless, thoughtful, beautifully simple and sustainable'. Every MiiR product funds a trackable giving project and these cups will help fund a clean water initiative in a country that needs it.

Creative Collaborations

We work with local bakers, makers & artists to bring Lufkin to life. Our beautiful bright lemon was created by local artist Lucy Dickson who also painted the mural you'll spot on the wall of the shop! Her mediums comprise of digital drawing, painting, murals and printed goods.

You may have also noticed we serve our coffee in hand-thrown ceramics, brought to us by potter Micki Schloessingk. Based in the Gower, Micki’s ceramics are wood fire salt glazed and she uses a variety of slips that fire to different finishes - so each cup is unique.

Your help

The name Lufkin originates from the word ‘love’: that pretty much says it all. We're so happy to be serving Cardiff such local, fresh and (let's face it) freakin' tasty coffee! We are asking for your help and kindness to make this happen - the new Lufkin Coffee Bars in Thompson's Park and Grangetown!

Through the Kickstarter campaign you will be able to purchase the limited edition Lufkin Coffee Roasters camp cup for £35. This will also get you 35p off a batch brew filter coffee at any of the Lufkin Coffee Roasters’ sites for life! Other rewards you can purchase to help fund this project will be coffee homebrewing courses, Barista training, gift vouchers and tickets to the special cocktail launch party in Thompson’s Park this spring.

Please do donate, share & support over the next month in whatever way you can!
